My name is Ellie Bennett, and I’m an Assyriologist at the University of Helsinki. I study the Ancient Near East, with a focus on gender, ‘Arabs’, and Digital Humanities.

My PhD research was specifically on the Neo-Assyrian period (about 934-612 BC), and a group of women called the ‘Queens of the Arabs’. Now at Helsinki I am using Digital Humanities tools and techniques to investigate masculinities in the Akkadian texts which have been digitised so far. You can see more about my research on the Centre of Excellence Ancient Near Eastern Empires website.

Please have a look around my site. I update the blog any time I do something interesting, and I try to keep it as accessible as possible. You can also find my publications, and my academic CV.

You can find my publications on and Researchgate.
